Totally - we've removed any reference to migrating - the current state model can be found here.... http://forge.ogf.org/sf/wiki/do/viewPage/projects.occi-wg/wiki/StateModel Andy -----Original Message----- From: occi-wg-bounces@ogf.org [mailto:occi-wg-bounces@ogf.org] On Behalf Of Alexander Papaspyrou Sent: 21 April 2009 10:16 To: Chris Webb Cc: occi-wg@ogf.org Subject: Re: [occi-wg] Nouns and Verbs (was: Syntax of OCCI API) - state model This is a "view" question. From the viewpoint of a scheduler, "migrating" is important; the user certainly does not need (want?) to see this. Are we really clear about the target audience of the API? -Alexander Am 17.04.2009 um 14:49 schrieb Chris Webb:

Hope this nice piece of ASCII arts survives :-)
It did! Could you clarify how 'migrated' and 'copied' differ from 'running'? (Migration of VMs within a cloud for load-balancing is something that should surely be completely user-transparent. Is this intended for some other purpose?)
Also, I don't follow what your 'installed' and 'starting' states are for. Surely our virtual machine is either running or not: we can't distinguish from outside whether a guest OS has fully started or not, even if we believe such a distinction is well-defined.
Cheers,
Chris.
