Hi guys, first of all, thank you both for kick-starting the discussion and offering to host such an event. That sounds like a sensible idea. We definitely need to start meeting regularly if we want to push OCCI forward and co-locating the meetings with expensive conferences doesn't really make sense anymore. IMO, no-fee non-conference meeting could be the way to go. Since the number of people in attendance will not be large, we can organize it almost anywhere. I guess we could set up a rotating schedule and always host the meeting at one of our home institutions. If we can meet f2f at least once or twice a year and combine it with monthly virtual meetings, it should work nicely. I'm fairly certain that I will be able to include CESNET (Prague, CZ) in that rotation ... completing a nice European triangle :-) I will get back to you ASAP regarding my attendance at such an event. What about the rest of the group? Any preferences, ideas, comments? Who would consider attending (with regards to location)? Hello all,
I agree with Augusto's arguments (too costly for a low impact) against another Special Session at the upcoming CLOSER conference. However the OCCI-WG should meet some times a year in order to work on the next generation of OCCI specifications. I could host such a meeting in the context of the French OCCIware funded project (host = provide rooms and coffee breaks for no fee). This/ese meeting/s could be hosted at Villeneuve d'Ascq in the north of France when you would like, other places in France are also possible (e.g. Paris, Lyon).
What do you think about this proposal?

A member of this WG asked me yesterday whether I was about to launch another Special Session at the upcoming CLOSER. Indeed, I have considered and discarded this option, and the reasons are the following:
-) cost: the registration fee at CLOSER is high, and we do not have enough return from such investment, since -) we might as well publish our research elsewhere, maybe in higher impact conferences/journals and -) publishing to several distinct conferences/journals in open sessions would finally improve OCCI outreach: as a matter of fact the audience of the last Special Session was mostly made of WG members.
So, the past experience was fine but we might look for alternatives as well, and I propose:
-) a no-fee un-conference on our own: we have a rather active meetup group about Cloud Computing here in Trentino, and they would certainly appreciate. But Pisa is fine too. This is what I can put on the plate;
-) run for a OCCI-specific workshop at a higher level conference (IEEE or the like). But I do not see much improvement wrt CLOSER SS.
So that's it...
Bye to everybody and best wishes for a great 2017.
Augusto
