A trademark will do a better job of doing that than copyrights ever would have anyway. @Gary: A standard is described by a specification - indeed one standard could be described by many specifications (for example, one official specification and one reverse engineered from a compliant implementation). Ideally you want your standard to be well described in specifications (supported by test suites, interop bake-offs, etc.) such that the implementations are interoperable. Sam
