This is more of a taxonomy than a cloud definition. I am still in belief that 'cloud' is an operational model and 'cloud computing' is that operational model applied to infrastructure and platforms. By operational model I mean two things: 1) a highly automated backend [intentionally left fuzzy here] and 2) a self-service frontend. Whereby self-service I mean: on-demand (get it when you want it), pay- as-you-go (utility charge model), and use-only-what-you-need (no contracts). Both of the latter will also apply behind the firewall. I think it's dangerous to over-define cloud. Cloud is more of a mass epiphany about our relationship to the Internet than anything else. --Randy Bias Cloud Strategist BLOG: http://cloudscaling.com Sent from my mobile device; please forgive typos On Jul 22, 2009, at 6:10, Thijs Metsch <Thijs.Metsch@Sun.COM> wrote:

Hi guys,
Just a short reminder of our weekly concall. Same place same time: all the information can be found here:
http://forge.ogf.org/sf/wiki/do/viewPage/projects.occi-wg/wiki/Teleconferenc...
Our Agenda for today includes:
1. Discussion about Cloud models 2. Draft API status 3. Misc.
Feel free to add more in our wiki:
http://forge.ogf.org/sf/wiki/do/viewPage/projects.occi-wg/wiki/Concall200907...
Prior to joining our concall have a look at:
http://sites.google.com/site/cloudarchitecture/
This is another point of view on how-to categorize Clouds. Have a look as the 'IaaS' box for example. Today we'll have a guest on the call with whom we can discuss this model and the differences to our ideas/thoughts.
All the best,
-Thijs
