Hi Guy and Jens-

While I might agree that the a "simmer" period is warranted to implement and deploy these NSI based services, I would strongly recommend against shutting down the WG.   I think there are some important topics the protocol discussions need to take over the next year.

One obvious topic being the multipoint services.  Another would be a symetric protocol implementation that can more easily support unsolicited messaging between NSAs.  Asymetric connections.   And I know there are other issues to be revisited or proposed.

And this leads us into another interesting proposition:   If NSI is indeed a general provisioning protocol - it builds Connection objects now as technology agnostic service definitions - why could we not extend it to do other types of service definitions?...  say a Switching Point service object that could provide a means of doing technology agnostic mp services?   Or even a Compute Node object that could offer yet a different type of services.   These all interlock using Service Termination Points.    I think this is entirely feasible - and I could offer the GTS API an example of working code.   GTS uses NSI, and NSI does some important heavy lifting for GTS. But the GTS API and the NSI API are almost exactly the same (!)   The NSI protocol could be extended to support these additonal types of service objects quite easily IMO.   We are so(!) close with both NSI and GTS...it would be a shame to not at least look at the prospect.

I apologize for not being more active in the NSI-WG recently, but I would like to request an opportunity to present this NSI+GTS prospect to the WG before we go into simmer mode...

Thanks for that. It seems a shame to wind the group down as there seems (to me) to be so much to do. With IoT and "fog computing" (oh dear) networking is going to increase in importance over the coming years, one would have thunk. Also the big questions like the "Science DMZ"

Anyway in the first instance I will liaise with Jerry to connect him - plus everyone else who is interested, of course - to the BEACON folks and we can then see what they think.

You may also be interested in the GEANT Testbeds Service.  
services.geant.net/gts <services.geant.net/gts> While it says 
"testbeds" - that is probably a misnomer... it provides production 
virtual environments with circuits, compute nodes, switching, etc. 
across the wide area GEANT footprint.  (Some people just use these 
virtual networks as "testbeds".)

And GTS uses NSI underneath for its circuit provisioning.
