Hello Jens,

Thanks for the heads-up on this.

We discussed this in the NSI working group meeting today and the conclusion is that NSI is in wind-down phase at the moment.  The two remaining draft documents we are wrapping up now are the NSI CS 2.1 and the NSI topology.

The Beacon project seems to fit better with Jerry’s GTS work as this is focused on the virtualization of more than just connectivity resources.  As Jerry says, the GTS virtualizes circuits, compute nodes, switching etc.   The circuit part is done using NSI.

So I would encourage the Beacon people to talk to Jerry.

Regards,

Guy

Hi Jens-

You may also be interested in the GEANT Testbeds Service.   services.geant.net/gts
While it says "testbeds" - that is probably a misnomer... it provides production virtual environments with circuits, compute nodes, switching, etc. across the wide area GEANT footprint.  (Some people just use these virtual networks as "testbeds".)

And GTS uses NSI underneath for its circuit provisioning.

Ping me if you want more info...
Best regards
Jerry

Hi Guy, all,

During the CloudScape meeting a week or so ago in Brussels I had a chat
with Philippe Massonet from CETIC and Massimo Villari from the
University of Messina. They both work (together...) on a project called
BEACON (http://www.beacon-project.eu/) and I thought some of what they
were talking about was similar to your work on network agents.

I would like to organise a call with you (NSI) and them (BEACON), some
time in the second half of April.

For example, they might be persuaded to build on your work or maybe
contribute to NSI.

If you could have a chat about this tomorrow as well and let me know
your thoughts, that'd be grand.

Thanks
