Peoples, I was quite excited yesterday to be able to discover five of the deployed NSA. Some didn't return version information, but at least the endpoints were available. I spent some time running tests and realized that using the discovery interface is a simple way of determining NSA availability for management of connectivity. I was easily able to determine those NSA that were up or down. Obviously, this capability would be useful in production implementations. Further thinking on this topic has me considering adding a simple "hello" or "ping" type message to Discovery that could be used to determine NSA availability without the need to retrieve the interface versions document. We could also add simple information to the hello such as NSA uptime or a last restart token to permit a peer to determine if perhaps an audit should be performed. Pretty standard capabilities in production systems. Comments? John.

I'm following the session remotely. Regarding Chin's question how to describe an STP which is a 40G link that is composed of four 10G links: I don't know how this is done in NSI as STP (I guess the choice is is to describe it either as 1 or 4 STP). In NML, you can relate this 40G link with the 10G links using the "isParallelCompound" relation, which is experimental (it's experimental because there is not yet enough info if/how to describe the order of the 10G links -- any input, including use cases are very welcome). To ask for "4 out of 10" ports -- to describe the 10 ports,it is usual to describe it as a PortGroup. How to ask for 4 individual links which follow the same path is an NSI-specific question (I have some ideas, but there is no NML answer to that). Freek

Garcia-Espin (I2Cat) "OpenFlow in GN3's Network Factory" Given the increasing momentum of Software-Defined Networking, GÉANT3 project is conducting an experimental deployment of OpenFlow in order to assess its validity for future NREN services in Europe. Facility design and implementation are being developed under GN3's Joint Research Activity 2, Task 5, namely Network Factory. This presentation shows the approach taken and on-going work. Takahiro Miyamoto (KDDI R&D Labs) "The relationship between OpenFlow and Switching Service" This presentation will consider how the NSI framework can be simply extended to deliver a switching service. The synergies between NSI and OpenFlow are considered. Jeroen van der Ham (University of Amsterdam) "Current status of the NML and applicability to OpenFlow and SDN". This presentation will provide an update on the current status of the NML working group at OGF. The uses and aims of the NML standard are presented and potential uses with OpenFlow and SDN in general are considered. Chin Guok (ESnet) "ESnet's use of OpenFlow to facilitate science data mobility".
