Hi All, The GENI organization has kindly agreed to host the NSI Standards meeting on Monday March 17th from 9 am - noon. You will have to register for GENI in order to attend that. Registration is very reasonable $200 before March 1st. Update based on Han's feedback. NSI has the requirement that the networkId of a resource must be parseable from the resource identifier. This is especially true for the STP identifier as we have a specific requirement that an STP identifier need not be exposed in topology, and therefore, the network identifier must be derivable from the STP identifier if the target network is to be determined. The current URN format specification document published by the NML group for use as identifiers in NML [ref] defines the resource identifier as opaque, which also implies non-parseable. We need to resolve this issue. I have captured a proposal below for an NSI identifier that removes the opaque URN restriction and imposes structure on the URN. In addition, the discovery service document has a 'features' attribute which allows the NSI to announce which of the optional parts of the NSI CS protocol have been implemented in that NSA. This will allow the NSA client to predict how to expect down-stream NSAs will behave. So that the discovery document can describe which of the optional parts of the protocol have been implemented an enumerated list of optional features should be defined for each service type. Survey on Computer Network Modelling for the Future Internet

Hi, We have bundled our experiences in network modelling in Geysers and NOVI, and also the NSI and NML working groups. This has resulted in a survey paper on network modelling. We have not been able to find a suitable journal for this survey paper. However, we feel that this is a valuable resource for the community, so we have decided to make this available for the general audience and published this article on arXiv.org. The article is available at http://arxiv.org/abs/1402.3951, abstract below: Trends in Computer Network Modeling Towards the Future Internet Jeroen van der Ham, Mattijs Ghijssen, Paola Grosso, Cees de Laat This article provides a taxonomy of current and past network modeling efforts. In all these efforts over the last few years we see a trend towards not only describing the network, but connected devices as well. This is especially current given the many Future Internet projects, which are combining different models, and resources in order to provide complete virtual infrastructures to users. An important mechanism for managing complexity is the creation of an abstract model, a step which has been undertaken in computer networks too. The fact that more and more devices are network capable, coupled with increasing popularity of the Internet, has made computer networks an important focus area for modeling. The large number of connected devices creates an increasing complexity which must be harnessed to keep the networks functioning. Over the years many different models for computer networks have been proposed, and used for different purposes. While for some time the community has moved away from the need of full topology exchange, this requirement resurfaced for optical networks. Subsequently, research on topology descriptions has seen a rise in the last few years. Updated NSI NSA Discovery document

Peoples, Here is the updated document describing the NSA Discovery schema for using with the NSI Discovery protocol. I made one small change to the schema from the version sent two weeks ago. I add the expires attribute in the NsaType definition for compatibility with the new NSI Discovery protocol. Please have a read and provide comments. I will try to get a draft of the NSI Discovery protocol out tomorrow to provide additional context. John
