JSDL-WG - Activity schema requirements session at OGF21

[With apologies for the massive cross-post... Do forward if I have missed anyone.] At OGF21 the JSDL-WG is planning a session on Activity schema requirements. JSDL addresses submission-time requirements but there is clearly a need for more. BES has taken a step forward in defining an ActivityDocument element that encapsulates a JSDL document; for use, for example, in the BES CreateActivity operation. In this session we'd like to explore current work and requirements and discuss how to move forward. So this session will be along the lines of an ad-hoc bof---presentations followed by discussion. We already have some presentations lined up but probably have room for more. If you would like to present at this session please send an email to either Steven McGough <asm@doc.ic.ac.uk> or myself. This session is scheduled for Wednesday (10/17) evening. http://www.ogf.org/gf/event_schedule/index.php?id=950 -- Andreas Savva Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd

I (as I already started a year ago) would happily like to discuss job dependencies ("workflows"), if there is any interest within JSDL on this topic.

I could patch together a sinple dependency/workflow integration mockup for such an "ad-hoc BOF", if there is any interest. My use-cases (well, use-case) would come from a Climate Research Grid project (http://www.c3grid.de) within the German eScience Grid efforts (http://www.d-grid.de) I am involved in, which I could also present as an application of JSDL -- again, if there is any interest on this. Hi Alexander, Going into details of a dependency or workflow language isn't what we have in mind for this session. Think of an Activity as the equivalent of a single job in Fig.2 of the JSDL specification. Actually, the dependencies/workflow topic was taken over by the ogsa-wg a few months back. Progress has been slow for a variety of reasons, probably best summarized as lack of consensus. The current plan is for the ogsa-wg to do a community practice document to identify main requirements. There is a session planned at OGF21 on Thursday (10/18) 1:30pm (http://www.ogf.org/gf/event_schedule/index.php?id=953) and (small world) Steve is leading it. You might like to talk with him for more details. I'd be happy to meet and talk with you at OGF21 about your work, though I don't think we can arrange a jsdl dependency session at the moment.
