Folks, A couple of updates. I realize now (probably stupidity on my part to not have realized this beforehand, but the last time I organized a WG, we had a telecon number) that this Skype thing isn't going to work out very well as it requires me to personally invite participants each week. We'll go forward with it for this week, but we should figure out a better mechanism for future telecons. Also, I have received at least one concern that Skype's EULA is unacceptable. I'm still fairly certain that I would prefer Glance for screen sharing, but the main constraint is that I have no money to support telecons at UVa and so whatever we use has to be free. I have been very unimpressed with DFN on the PGI telecons so I would prefer to avoid that. For screen sharing there are quite a few technologies that seem to work well (Glance, Join.Me, etc. all seem good). Voice is quite another thing. I could get a free telecon number, but it would be a paid call for most participants. I could go with Skype. I'm half tempted to use Ventrillo which is a client that I have used (I am very embarassed to admit) for MMORPGs online but it's definitely geared for 40 people trying to kill a big dragon rather than serious work :) I had someone recommend EVO which I took a look at but wasn't really very impressed with on the surface. Here's my recommendation. For tomorrow, we'll use Skype. Unless I have personally made arrangements with you otherwise, please Skype chat me tomorrow between 1455 UTC and 1500 UTC to request that I had you to the Skype conference call and I'll add you in. The Glance session will be available at uvacse.glance.net with passcode 0119. To resolve the other issue, I would like to add one item to the agenda which is a discussion of teleconferencing software, particular wrt voice. Folks,
We will have our first JSDL Telecon of 2011 this coming Wednesday from 1500 UTC to 1600 UTC. I will be using Glance to share my screen (use a browser to go to uvacse.glance.net during the telecon. As we have always done in OGSA before, the code for the glance session will be the two digit number for the month followed by the two digit number of the day of the month (therefor, this coming Wednesday, the code will be 0119).
For voice, I would really like to use Skype if possible. Its free, its professional (well, we can pretend at least that it is) and it's easy. If everyone who intends to participate could please send me your Skype ID (mine is mmm2a42) I'll be happy to add you to my list and conference us all in together. If you can't use skype, please let me know and I'll try to figure something else out.
Finally, as promised before, here is the agenda I would like to use for this coming telecon:
* Roll Call and Minutes * Approve last meetings minutes (I know we don't have a last meeting so this is a place holder for the future) * Agenda Bashing (in general, I will ask (not require) that anyone who wants to change the agenda please do so by email to me with at least 24 hours notice on the actual meeting -- I'm a firm believer in Brooks' Mythical Man Month when it comes to meetings) * JSDL Planning for 2011 - What do we want to accomplish (I have a few ideas and I know that PGI has some thoughts) - How are we going to get from here to there. - What procedure will be adopt for prioritizing work - Who plans on active participation (i.e., who is going to work on JSDL items between telecons). * OGF 31 Discussion * Next Telecon Planning (Wednesday, 2 February 2011) * Action Item Review -- jsdl-wg mailing list jsdl-wg@ogf.org http://www.ogf.org/mailman/listinfo/jsdl-wg
