Dear friends, A new stable release of the GridWay meta-scheduler (now a Globus project) is available for download (see below the release announcement). Jsdl-Posix Application Query

Hello, In the JSDL Schema (Page 46, Paragraph: 8.1.1.1) it specifies that a POSIX style application MUST appear only once if it is present as a sub-element of the JSDL Application element. If a POSIX style application DOES NOT appear under the JSDL Application Element, can it appear more than once in a JSDL file? If yes, what is the maximum number of occurrences? application profile proliferation

I've been reviewing JSDL, the BES HPC Application Profile, and JSDL Parallel/SPMD profile to see how they can be used with Globus GRAM execution service. One concern I have is the way these various application profiles are redefining the same basic functionality (executable, arguments, environment, etc), either in their own namespaces or importing from the jsdl-posix namespace, sometimes with different behavior/features. It's not clear to me how (if at all) these are to be/can be composed. The feature set of GRAM seems to span these profiles: some (but not all) of the limits from POSIXApplication are relevant, as is the SPMD functionality of specifying the various process counts and something like SPMDVariation. There is also a small amount of scheduler- specific and site-specific extensions that GRAM might have to deal with. Do other groups have plans for implementing more than one of these profiles, and what approaches are you considering for doing so? joe

Unexpected compassion leave

Folks, due to an unexpected emergency incident at home, I have to take off for at least the rest of the week. OGSA-WG: I will not be able to attend conference calls, particularly this week Thursday (having OGSA-Workflow scheduled). OGSA-DMI-WG: I will not be able to host the scheduled conference call this week Wednesday. Unless anybody else can back me up, the call will be cancelled. Hi, Given that many of us just got back, still traveling, or traveling again there is no call this week. Our next call will be next week, *Feb.14*. An agenda will be posted early next week.
