Dear All
Please find
below a reflection on the GUNI presentation and discussion last week in GHPN
RG.
GUNI
presentation (G. Zervas)
·
The
presentation was focused on the updated version of the Draft.
·
After
presenting slides on contributors, structure and scope of this draft, we provided a
few slides on Usecases describing different proprietary solutions developed or
under development to interface Grid and Network provisioning systems.
·
A
long discussion on these slides (slides 10-18) was held between the presenter,
Eduard Escalona, Richard Hugues-Jones, John R. Vollbrecht, Anand Patil, Inder Monga and Cees
de Laat. The discussion concerned the interaction between Grid and Network
provisioning systems and how the network resources are provisioned.
·
On
slide 21 there was also useful discussion and interaction on the focus and the
scope of this draft and in general the GUNI specification. The contributors of
this draft proposed that a vertical interface (Grid-to-Network) can be also
adapted for a horizontal one (Network-to-Network).
·
After
a long discussion Richard Hugues-Jones suggested to focus the work of GUNI only
on the vertical interface (Grid service layer and Network service layer).
·
There
was also a suggestion for incorporating the Grid application requirements from
Inder Monga. The involvement of experts from the Grid Middleware WGs was
proposed from Wolfgang Ziegler.
·
It
was also decided that there is a clear need to work towards the formation of a
working Group targeting the formal standardization of the Interface. A WG
Charter will be submitted and a BoF will be organized at OGF23 to consult the
wider community.
