Technical Expert funding opportunity

[I am forwarding the message below on behalf of OGF-Europe] +++++++ Dear OGF Chair, Over the past years, OGF has maintained a student scholar programme where students from around the world could apply for and receive funding to attend OGF events. The OGF-EUROPE project (http://www.ogfeurope.eu/) has introduced an analogous opportunity to allow European technical experts to benefit from this programme as well. The OGF-EUROPE technical expert programme provides a more longer-term support of attending OGF events and working with the community, with financial support for travels of up to 5 experts for up to two OGF-EUROPE events. People who are awarded within this programme should represent selected experts from the community, which are able to push the standards agenda further. We envision at least two profiles of experts. First group has knowledge and experience to contribute to standards development while the second is able to promote adoption of selected OGF specifications. To this end, they should obviously come from relevant areas for OGF. Experts who have not been strongly involved in OGF so far are particularly appreciated. Potential tasks and added value introduced by experts might include providing use cases and requirements, sharing best practices and knowledge, presenting experiences from perspective of software developer and user to standardization groups. Another possible role of experts could be to promote adoption of selected OGF standards through support of implementation, promoting OGF specifications with company's products etc. Alternatively OGF-Europe may fund work in-between OGFs. Expected outcomes might include documents helping to disseminate and adopt OGF specifications such as white papers, guides, and tutorials with examples. Another option would be funding participation in additional F2F meetings. We are addressing this email to you since you posses, as an OGF group chair, the most complete knowledge about your group's needs and opportunities. Therefore, what we expect from you is to send us any suggestions concerning candidates for experts along with tasks they could perform and any extra work that you find useful for a group and that could be funded by OGF-Europe. We will be very grateful for any suggestions. We hope you will actively contribute to this activity since it may significantly support your group efforts and adoption of specifications. OGF Chairs - While the deadline is fast approaching, there is still time to request Group or BoF sessions for OGF23. OGF Student Scholarship Program

Dear Chairs, The OGF Student Scholarship program has been expanded (thanks to OGF-Europe and CoreGRID) and currently includes travel funding for students to engage in group activities at OGF23 as well as typical administrative tasks that are asked of the scholars. Please forward the details below to students that are currently engaged in your group activities but are not likely to obtain funding from their organizations to attend OGF23. Please let me know if you have questions or need additional information. Regards, Julie +++++ The 23rd Open Grid Forum - OGF23 Student Scholarship Program Barcelo Sants Hotel Barcelona, Spain June 2-6, 2008 OGF, CoreGRID and OGF-Europe are pleased to offer a limited number of student travel scholarships for OGF23. Travel scholarships include travel reimbursement (approximately 800EUR/$1000USD per student) and registration costs. Exact reimbursement amount to be communicated with selected students. To apply for the OGF23 Student Travel Scholarship, contact Kristi Hamilton via email at <mailto:khamilton@ogf.org> khamilton(a)ogf.org by April 18, 2008, and include the following information: . Name . Country of Citizenship* . Name/location of school currently attending* . Areas of study related to Grid Computing (including references to scientific publications if any) . Brief explanation of your motivation to apply for the scholarship including: o Brief explanation of how you think your attendance at OGF23 will be useful to your research or career. o Intended participation in specific groups and sessions with information whether or not you will be making a presentation at OGF23. o How you intend on staying involved in grid related activities after the OGF23. . If you were involved in OGF activities to date (e.g. discussions on mailing lists, comments concerning specifications, provided input etc.), please specify names of OGF groups or specifications. Selected scholars will be notified of their acceptance on or before May 2, 2008. Selected OGF23 scholars must agree to the following: . Attend a mandatory training session onsite, before the meeting begins. . Assist in set up of meeting rooms, registration area, etc. . Provide administrative help to onsite OGF staff during the week. . Provide a post-event report to OGF-Europe if engaged in group activities. This report should include information about participation in OGF23 and future plans related to grids (a template will be given to scholars) Failure to perform within these guidelines will result in a forfeit of travel, lodging and registration fees waived. If you disagree with any of the above, please do not submit an application. OGF Chairs - Session scheduling is now open for the next OGF event, OGF22, which will be held in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA from February 25-29, 2008 At OGF22, we have planned a multi-session track with contributions from developers and users showcasing their work implementing OGF specifications. This Specification Adoption Track aims to provide a vehicle for: * Highlighting project success and increasing organization visibility * Productive interaction with specification authors * Discussion of specifications with experienced implementers. In addition, all spec adoption presenters will be provided a free poster/demonstration table display to further highlight their work. If you would like to participate, please submit your proposal via the on-line Call For Participation (CFP) form by selecting the "Spec Adoption" session type in the drop-down. We will contact you in January with full details on display table set up information and schedule.
