Re: [DRMAA-WG] DRMAA Perl Bindings
Javier, Thanks for your notification and for your work porting Schedule::DRMAAc to GridWay, I'm copying the DRMAA working group forum so that they are aware of this added resource. I must confess I've been a long time inactive in the grid community. Are you willing to release your edits back to the community on CPAN? Thanks, Tim -----Original Message----- From: Javier Fontan Sent: Monday, December 10, 2007 9:11 AM To: Tim Harsch Subject: DRMAA Perl Bindings Hello, I am Javier Fontan and I'm working for Universidad Complutense de Madrid. More specifically I am working in the group that develops GridWay (http://www.gridway.org). I got your DRMAA module from CPAN and modified it a bit and made a new package that does not require SGE and can be compiled with GridWay DRMAA library. The package will also be licensed as GPL and will maintain your authorship. I can send you the package when it is ready for release so you can check it. Tell me if there is any problem. Bye
Dear Tim and Javier, thanks for working on DRMAA implementations, which is always great news for us. I would like to encourage you to transfer your knowledge into an official OGF DRMAA Perl language binding document, and base your implementation on it. This would allow future adopters - maybe Sun ;-) - to build Perl DRMAA implementations by some referable document, which at the end ensures Perl application portability. You might know that the DRMAA group developed a language-neutral IDL spec of DRMAA, in order to ease up exactly such an effort. It is currently in public comment status: http://www.ogf.org/Public_Comment_Docs/Documents/2007-12/ggf-drmaa-idl-bindi... If you have the time, please read it and try to find mappings between the IDL constructs and Perl. I would be glad to help you with this. You might end up with a different API than it is in CPAN now, but you will get the "OGF-DRMAA-compliant" button on your implementation(s) for the future. Thanks and best regards, Peter.
