Release of GridWay 5.3

Dear all, On behalf of the GridWay team I am pleased to announce that a new development release of the GridWay Metascheduler is now available for download. The new release provides DRMAA bindings in Perl, Ruby and Python, and DRMAA binding v1.0. See below the release info. Ignacio ================================================ GridWay 5.3 ================================================ ENHANCEMENTS: Since GridWay 5.2, development activities have been focused on easing the integration of GridWay with major Grid infrastructures: EGEE, TeraGrid and OSG. In this new development release, GridWay 5.3, support to access the NorduGrid infrastructure is also included. Also, new bindings for DRMAA and support for DAGMAN workflows are included. - Integration with major Grid Infrastructures Following the trend from previous releases, GridWay 5.3 is capable of integrate with another major infrastructure: NorduGrid. Drivers for Execution and Transfer are included in this release. - New DRMAA bindings for scripting languages Previous GridWay releases come with support for C and Java bindings implementing the DRMAA standard. Scripting languages are interesting from the point of view of rapid application prototyping among others. From dsa-research.org we believe this to be an interesting aspect, and that is why GridWay 5.3 includes bindings to access the DRMAA standard from scripting languages such as Perl, Ruby and Python. - Implementation of DRMAA Java Binding v1.0 GridWay now provides support for DRMAA Java Binding v1.0. DRAMAA Java bindings are also included to support legacy applications. - Support for DAGMAN workflows There is an increasing interest from the scientific community to be able to run complex workflows on a Grid environment. An almost de-facto standard to represent DAG workflows is Condor DAGMAN. In this development release GridWay includes a new workflow launcher (gwdag) that handles this kind of workflows. Javier, Thanks for your notification and for your work porting Schedule::DRMAAc to GridWay, I'm copying the DRMAA working group forum so that they are aware of this added resource. I must confess I've been a long time inactive in the grid community. Are you willing to release your edits back to the community on CPAN? These two are the only OGF documents. The former will have version 1.0 when published and the latter has already set version 1.0, so for now these are the version numbers to refer to. For now the plan is to release language binding documents as OGF documents. There is an effort underway to align their version numbers to the IDL and GFD.22 documents. As Peter said there is some hoistory of informally released document and implementations that we need to reconcile and we are reluctant to have hammer approach for that. Regards, Hrabri

IDL spec comments from GFSG

Dear all, GFSG discussed our IDL spec, and changed the status to "public comment". The following questions were raised, which should be answered as part of the public review. "Why no reference to SAGA or other standards work?" "IDL mapping is present. What mappings to other languages should be considered (perhaps for other documents)?" The first issue can be easily solved by adding more references to the document. The second issue shows a lack of understanding regarding our language binding documents strategy. We need to be more explicit here. The spec still does not show up on ogf.org. I will monitor this and inform you when the 60 days timer really starts. Regards, Peter.
