Well it had to happen eventually... I have reached the age where retirement from my active technical career makes sense. As of Dec 31, 2025 I am retired from my job at Owl Cyber Defense where I have been paid for nearly 15 years to work on DFDL and Daffodil. With that comes a reduction of my time to work on the DFDL workgroup. I did a small flurry of spec changes recently to get all the current corrections and errata into the document and set it up for getting cross-ref/hyperlinks fixed, and a clickable property index, as those are badly needed. I will still be on the DFDL mailing list but I will not be participating as actively, but I can remain acting co-chair until such time as someone else wants to step into the role of chair/co-chair. I have to say it has been an honor and a pleasure to work with all of you for these years on DFDL. Mike Beckerle The ASF (Apache Software Foundation)

MIke, Thanks for this information. On behalf of the GFSG, I would like to thank you for the long set of contributions you have made and the accomplishments you have helped to lead for the DFDL effort over the years. We would like to wish you a pleasant retirement and of course will be grateful for any further activities you find you have time to make. In either case, we wish you best of luck with your future activities and are grateful once again for your contributions. Can you describe the next steps for any updates to the DFDL spec and associated activities, either within OGF and/or with ISO/IEC JTC1 that are in progress? Do you anticipate publishing an updated DFDL version at some point in the future? Is there anyone you and the group has found willing to step forward to continue to lead these activities? We also have the ability to announce this and other related activities through our various social media in addition to the mailing lists to get more eyes on this and more participation. We have outlets through hpc.social<http://hpc.social> accounts on BlueSky, Mastodon, and legacy X (formerly Twitter), though the latter is not currently in use, as well as other related forums. If you think it would be useful, and can suggest to me text for any posts along with an address to contact (either web or email - could be this list) in response to a call for action? It can be, for example, a pointer to the GitHub project in our OGF organizational pages, as long as someone is available to moderate these and respond. Please let me know the suggested text for any such announcements if so.
