Extensibility group is moving forward - nothing to report yet Discussion of Geoff's documents ------------------------------- Variables doc Mike observed that variables could be used in place of his extensibility proposal on annotations. Martin asked about whether we wanted to include this in the standard. Is the complexity worth the addition - the feeling of the meeting was probably it was. Martin proposed that instead of binding a variable value to an element, the variable value should be set with an XPath expression. Discussed the question as to whether the variable value can be reset, whether it can/should be scoped in the same way as annotation attributes. Next step will be for Geoff to revise the document to look at cases where value may need to be reset and start to explore some of the semantic issues involved. Choices doc Discriminator type - what if discriminator is not a string? For efficiency can we handle discriminators that are integers? Suggest that instead of discriminators being computed to strings they are computed to an XPath value with its implied type so that numeric discriminators do need to be converted to strings. Wildcard docs Group seemed fairly happy with this proposal as it stands.

FYI here is a summary of XSLT variable semantics: http://www.stylusstudio.com/w3c/xslt/variables.htm#variables It would be nice if DFDL variables turned out to have either compatible semantics or a subset of them. Hi, I have attached updated versions of the documents that I sent last week and that are to be discussed on this Wednesdays conference call. The main changes are that the concept of desciminators have been decoupled from variables and an example has been added for the service string scenario in the Variables in DFDL document. Hi Folks, Usual reminder for the usual meeting, except last week we finished our first pass through the issues list. I believe that the next piece of process should be to review progress on all of the tracker items. It would be useful to agree priorities and dependencies for them. Perhaps a good place to start would be the documents that Geoff sent out today. Unfortunately I cannot join until 9.30 so I would be grateful if someone could take notes for me? Proposal for the use of Variables in DFDL

Hi, Attached is a document that describes a proposal to use variables in DFDL. This came out of discussions on tracker item 1699 (Parameters and keying). I have also updated the documents on Choices and Wildcards to incorporate variables. Any feedback would be appreciated. Big news: we completed the first pass of the issues list (Hurray!) Three new trackers were identified: - New tracker parser behaviour - New tracker on bit fields - New tracker on pointers I didn't get around to updating the issues list last week. However it has now been brought up to date and all the new trackers have been added.
