Goodbye dcifp-bof, Hello dcifed-wg (was Fwd: [dcifp-bof] Group charter proposal)
Folks, with some delay from my side (collisions with travels and vacation, sorry for that), I am pleased to announce that our group proposal has been officially approved. Please check out the GridForge pages [1] and register there as well to be able to access the documents and collaborate on the wiki. We are now part of the OGF "Standards Function" and more specifically located in the "Management Area" [2]. There, our friendly Area Director is Andre Merzky, who has a long history in OGF (people from OCCI-WG will know him pretty well) -- I am very glad that we can build on his experience. So thanks, Andre, and welcome to our list! As tentative group management, the following functions have been implemented: Gary Mazzafero (Group Co-Chair) Alexander Papaspyrou (Group Co-Chair) Andrew Edmonds (Group Secretary) I will, as requested by the rules (correct me, if I am wrong, Andre) of OGF send out an email with a formal announcement for these people to approve by the group. The next steps for us (all) will be to update the group charter, especially the deliverables and their dates (which have been defined four months ago and never updated). This is especially important as they will be used by GFSG to evaluate our group performance (see also Andre's comment below). My suggestion is to make this discussion part of the DCIfed General Session next week at OGF (but I am going to send a separate email on this). Another thing we might want to consider is to have regular online meetings (phone calls, VC, you name it) for the WG. I would be very grateful for proposals how to do this, and (more importantly) for providing infrastructure for this (whoever is first with an acceptable solution for the latter, I will owe a beer). So much for the welcome -- I am excited that DCIfed is there, and looking forward to good work with all of you. the DCIFED WG formation is implemented from our side now - the GF project exists, as does the mailing list. The group is now also listed on the web pages, and the living charter entry exists as well. I would like to ask you to check those items and make sure everything is set up correctly. Please let me know if anything is amiss. In particular, please make sure that the milestones listed in the living charter (http://www.ogf.org/gf/group_info/charter.php?review&group=dcifed-wg) reflect reality - that is what GFSG will use for the group's performance evaluation. Also, this is the last chance to smooth out the charter, if you feel the need to do so.
Once those items are done, please let me know, and we'll announce the group to the wg-all list. Also, feel free to go ahead with OGF30 session scheduling!

Alexander et al., Congratulations and welcome on the launch of the DCI-Fed working group. We are pleased to see this activity commencing and wish it well. Andre has indeed been keeping the standards council apprised on the launch of this activity. Formally, the appointment of and any change to the group leadership as well as any major change to it's charter or direction requires standards council approval, which can be coordinated through Andre acting as area director. In thus case, given the good state of communications on this topic with respect to this group, I do not anticipate any difficulties in this step for the DCI-Fed WG. We look forward to a list of work products and an exciting time ahead for all involved in the group!
