The ACLU is headquartered in New York. Given what the NYPD is famous for, they seem to be complete failures at upholding civil liberty. Every so often, you hear about one of their officers exhibiting some sort of severe mental defect.
The world does not remotely seem possible.
It will all end soon enough, I imagine. Daniel Ellsberg just released a new book about his years working as a nuclear researcher for RAND - this is prior to the Pentagon papers. He says he and a colleague saw Dr. Stranglove when it came out and remarked to each other - "that was a documentary!" Interesting book so far, called "The Doomsday Machine: Confessions of a Nuclear War Planner."
