The story goes: When the Horizon computer system found over 736 sub-postmasters were allegedly grifting from the United Kingdom’s postal budgets, they were summarily punished. However, Horizon’s back office capabilities were later found to contain bugs and other system defects that allegedly found workers at fault by mistake. Enter litigation funding, a utility that many of the former post office workers found necessary to clear their name. According to the Law Society of Scotland <https://www.lawscot.org.uk/members/journal/issues/vol-67-issue-05/litigatio…>, February of 2022 saw the initiation of a public debate and investigation on the totality of the Post Office scandal’s effects. The whole affair is being dubbed an extreme case of United Kingdom justice malfeasance. Furthermore, the Law Society explains that about 10% of the 736 criminal records have been overturned. A class of 555 claimants have won restitution, totaling £20,000 each. For Moxie, it sounds like having to ‘rediscover’ your contacts periodically at any point is a horrible inconvenience. For anarchists, it should be considered an advantage to have to intentionally maintain our ‘social graph’ based on our affinity, desires, and trust. Who is in our ‘social graph’ should be something we are constantly reevaluating and reexamining for security reasons (do I still trust everyone who has my phone number from 10 years ago) and to encourage intentional social relationships (am I still friends with everyone who has by phone number from 10 years ago). It’s for NeurIPS 2022, upcoming. I’ve been kicking it around in my mind a smidge, and I’m thinking it would just be so useful and likely appreciated for anybody at all to make any implementation at all of this paper, that it would be worth trying to do. The concept of the paper is not complex, but it’s quite hard for me to approach, as usual.

I humorously propose a cryptography between human beings based on shared experience alone. The “private key” is the impact of that shared experience on the human heart. In pair with an AI capable of simulating the recipient(s) based on information known about them, one considers a unique experience shared with the recipient(s). Implications, details, and feelings regarding the experience are enumerated until the AI discerns strong enough likelihood that the recipient(s) would find a cryptographically sufficient set of similar ones. The enumerations are compressed into ideas, trigger words, a short stimulating phrase, etc. These are the public key material. They must depend on both parties’ personalities, and also the moment of shared experience. The details considered in the mind of the sender(s) or recipient(s) are the private key material, which are privately extracted by the AI and used as a symmetric key. On receipt, the recipient(s) engage the ideas, trigger words, etc, gently and slowly, calmly thinking of them and feeling around them. An AI watches their mind, looking for private key material. Once sufficient material is found, the message is decrypted. The system may work with a stranger if something important is known about the stranger indicating a need to contact them — and fails if this important thing turns out to be false. There are vulnerabilities that can be addressed by building a respectful society and government if you have one. The AI can be replaced with very extensive practice on the part of the sender, and patient work on the part of the recipient. All early daydream guesses for fun! I believe it is quite implementable. I did not review for vulnerabilities much.
