hi folks, as of friday we recieved 15 requests for community presentations/panels. By doing a bit of compression (what i am talking about is to take some suggested talks on related subjects and give them 40 min. each and put them in the same 90 min. slot) we can accomodate all of them. things still to do: 1. complete the planning for the "big grids" panel on weds. that should be an update on teragrid, OSG, NAREGI, and others in the region. 2. plan the "OGSA & Alternatives" panel. 3. complete the planning for the Big Data panel on thurs. 4, contact craig lee to see if he is still interested in doing the vendor adoption forum. also note: i have not scheduled anything submitted though the general working group/research group track. and finally, there is a reason i do not show up on the community calls at 10:00 central. they overlap with my teaching duties this semester. i will try to be there this morning, but i cannot promise i will be there for very long. dennis
hi Friends, We need to get the GGF17 program finished and published by early next week. I need your help on identifing some key speakers for a few panels. On the first morning we have the opening address plenary. Mark will do a half hour of intro followed by 50 min presentation by Hiro. then we have a half hour presentation by the japan cyber science director prof. Sakauchi. He needs to be officially invited. Satoshi (M or S) can you make an offical invitation? we will then have a panel on the status of Big Grids. The obvious choices are Teragrid, Naregi, OSG, but i need contacts for some of the big projects in the rest of the pacific rim? please send me references for names of projects and people to contact. After lunch we have a panel on OGSA vs Alternatives. The idea here is to look into the debate about scope of OGSA vs. smaller, more focused service architectures. Good people for this would be David Snelling, Andrew Grimshaw, Ian Foster, Tony Hey, Geoffrey Fox, Steve Newhouse, but i am sure there are others. I think Satoshi M. has agreed to moderate this panel? Is that correct Satoshi? Please send me other names of good people for this. Finally on thurs morning we have a panel on Managing Large Data Collections. I have asked Beth Plale to organize this. She has agree on the condition that the committee help her identify the right people in asia who are involved in this aspect of grids? who has large data collections? we need good contact names so that we may invite them. being in tokyo makes it very important that we take the opportunity to attract good people from the region to ggf, because these people may not otherwise be available. and we can expose more of the us and european community to the work from the asia pacific region. So please help us with names. thanks! dennis
I will make an official invitation to NII on the JP CyberScience on Friday (I am @ NYC right now but flying home in a minute). Ian currently plans not attending Tokyo but you might convince him otherwise (or attend remotely).

I don't want to run roughshod over process completely, but why don't you get started pronto while the paperwork catches up with you. The charter is in the Approve New Group tracker and we're scheduled to approve (oops, discuss) it tomorrow followed by the 7d conditional approval period. Might be good to call out the topics yeah. Right, it is to first approximation an RG... for lack of a better structure. It stretches the seams of even what an RG is though. It's actually 5 tightly coupled but independently operated groups. But we'll worry about that later. CeC On Apr 3, 2006, at 11:40 AM, Craig Lee wrote:

hi all, o.k. here is the preliminary program. xl version and word version is attached. we need to get this out right away (ann and steve are very unhappy with me and need something to post today.) so please assume that the preliminary version can change if you see big problems. in fact i am sure it will change. notice i have not paid much attention to which room should be used for specific activities. we have two rooms: one with 100 seats and one with 130. also, there are still lots of details left out. like the names of the people on the various panels.
